A concrete example
Example: Four people need to reach a work area in demanding terrain. The alternative is a 2.5-hour walk each way. That means 5 hours of travel time per person, or 20 working hours in total spent purely on getting there and back.
By helicopter, the same transport can often be completed in a few minutes each way. If the helicopter spends 10 minutes flying in and 10 minutes flying out, total flight time is 20 minutes. The work crew can then spend almost the whole day on the actual job instead of spending a large part of the day travelling.
If each person costs the customer 900 kroner per hour, 20 lost working hours amount to 18,000 kroner. There is also the risk of delays, lower productivity, HSE strain and the need for extra logistics. In such a case, a helicopter can therefore be the cheaper choice overall, even though the hourly rate for the helicopter looks high in isolation.
The same applies to a "taxi trip": 1 minute in the air equals 2 hours of walking if the terrain is good going. On foot, you can manage a maximum of 30 kg on your back. Two people in a helicopter can bring 100 kg each, and arrive well rested. Don't forget landing permission. Have a good trip.
Fixed price
